Iomega's Second Generation Desktop Autoloader Based On Hard Drive Technology Delivers 560 Gigabytes Of Automated, Removable Backup Capability For Small Business Servers

SAN DIEGO, October 11, 2006 - Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), a global leader in data storage and protection, today announced the worldwide availability of the Iomega® REV® Loader 560, Iomega's second generation of its innovative desktop autoloader that utilizes removable disks that economically solve the backup and archive needs of small businesses.

Incorporating standard hard drive components and removable technology created by Iomega, the new REV Loader 560 provides access to 560GB* of native storage (or 1.12TB of compressed capacity) by managing up to eight removable 70GB REV disks in an amazingly compact desktop form factor less than 7 inches tall and 5 inches wide. The REV Loader 560 connects to a server through a standard USB 2.0 interface. Iomega has created a total backup and archive solution for small businesses by bundling with each REV Loader 560 a license for CA BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup for Windows (r11.5), including support for disaster recovery.

Through its simple USB interface, ease of use, elegant desk top form factor, feature rich software, and economical price point, the Iomega REV Loader 560 brings an automated storage system to small businesses that never before could consider an automated backup device because of the costs and complexities of tape-based automation products.

"The new Iomega REV Loader 560 continues Iomega's commitment to the data storage and protection needs of small businesses by incorporating our new REV 70GB technology to make it easy and economical for small businesses to safeguard their critical data," said Tom Kampfer, President and Chief Operating Officer, Iomega Corporation.

"The REV Loader 560 delivers the speed and convenience of a hard drive with the advanced backup protection of removable media in an automated, 'no-touch' data protection solution," continued Kampfer. "If disaster strikes and the server goes down, there's no searching for the right backup disk. The Iomega REV Loader 560, in tandem with the included BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup software from CA, automatically loads the correct disk and restores the system to its previous state. That's the kind of data protection that small businesses need in today's regulatory environment."

Unlike tape backup products that rely on fragile and very slow linear-access technology, the REV Loader 560 drive uses rugged 70GB REV disks that contain only the hard drive platter and motor in the disk. The REV Loader 560 is dramatically faster than tape-based automation devices, delivering up to 30MB/sec data transfer rates with random access capability, which is up to 10 times faster than many tape alternatives such as DAT-72. The Iomega REV drive is a proven technology that is quickly becoming a small business storage standard around the world. Since launching the REV platform in 2004, Iomega has sold more than 250,000 REV Drives and more than 1.3 million REV disks. The Iomega REV drive has won more than 20 technology awards worldwide.

With the addition of the new REV Loader 560, Iomega now offers small businesses and others a complete family of REV products that utilize both REV 35GB disks and the new REV 70GB disks, including stand alone internal and external REV drives available in a selection of computer interfaces (external USB 2.0, FireWire®, internal SCSI, ATAPI and SATA interfaces). The REV Loader 560 is backward compatible with REV 35GB disks, meaning the REV Loader 560 can read and write to REV 35GB disks.

Removable REV Technology Costs Less and Works Faster

REV disks combine the speed and reliability of a hard drive with the removability of tape. Reliability, ruggedness, security (via disk password protection), instant access to data, archivability, zero maintenance and great accompanying software are all advantages of REV over competing tape products. REV disks provide an estimated archival life of 30 years and are highly portable (0.4 inches x 3.0 inches x 2.8 inches).

This solid technical foundation gives the REV Loader 560 the reliability small business users require for backing up their essential data and successfully restoring it. Automatic backup verification ensures the integrity of data backups, and file restores from any disk are completely automatic-no need to manually locate the "correct" disk. And archive capacity can be increased as business needs warrant with additional REV disks.

Compared to tape-based autoloaders, the REV Loader 560 is half the size, half the weight, 10 times as fast, and one-third the device cost (on a dollar per gigabyte basis). Password protection and encryption provide additional data security.

Superior Backup and Disaster Recovery Software For A Complete Solution

CA's BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup ships with the REV Loader 560, providing a complete backup and disaster recovery solution for small business users.

"SMBs have to protect ever-growing volumes of business information while aggressively controlling costs," said Frank Jablonski, director of product marketing for storage management at CA. "The combination of CA's BrightStor ARCserve Backup software and Iomega's new higher capacity REV Loader technology fulfills this two-fold requirement by cost-effectively delivering increased storage capacity with essential, backup-and-recovery functionality."

BrightStor ARCserve Backup protects and ensures availability of critical applications and data from large data centers to back offices, providing a wide range of support for disk technologies, Storage Area Networks (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) environments.
