Iomega REV Automation Products Now Have Native Support From Symantec Backup Exec Software
Award-Winning REV Removable Hard Drive Technology Features Compelling Advantages Over Tape-Based Products for Small Business Data Protection and Disaster Recovery
SAN DIEGO, May 17, 2007 – Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), a global leader in data storage and protection, today announced that Symantec Backup Exec 11d for Windows Servers, the leading Windows data protection software for the mid-market, now natively supports all Iomega® REV® drive automation products, including the innovative desktop form factor Iomega REV Loader.
With this announcement, all REV 35GB* and REV 70GB drives, both single-disk and autoloader products, are now natively supported within Symantec Backup Exec 11d for Windows Servers. Native support for single disk REV products has been available since November 2006; users of version 11d can download a software update to add full REV autoloader support.
“Iomega’s REV backup and archive products are the only removable disk technology products with automation, and we couldn’t be happier that dedicated Backup Exec users can now benefit from our REV Loader products’ superior capabilities,” said Tom Kampfer, President and COO, Iomega Corporation. “We have worked hard with the vendors of backup software to make the REV platform a seamless storage option that’s compatible with all the leading small business backup software products. We’re delighted that Symantec and its Backup Exec native REV support now covers all of Iomega’s REV products. Users of Backup Exec now have a clear upgrade path from tape storage to the superior hard drive-based speed, usability and reliability of REV technology.”
“Backup Exec has supported disk-based backups for years,” said Pat Hanavan, Vice President of Product Management, Symantec Corporation. “Extending Backup Exec 11d support to Iomega’s REV automation technology provides options as small businesses look to disk-based protection with the REV technology as a disk-based hard drive alternative to tape. Iomega’s REV Loaders, when used with Backup Exec 11d, work like tape, meaning no retraining is required when combining these products for network backup and data recovery.”
Symantec Backup Exec 11d for Windows Servers
Backup Exec is the leading software for Windows data protection in the mid-market. Backup Exec 11d delivers continuous, high-performance, certified disk-to-disk-to-tape backup and recovery and extends the product line’s continuous data protection capabilities to Microsoft Exchange, eliminating the need for daily Exchange backups and time-consuming mailbox backups.
Backup Exec 11d also features Granular Recovery Technology that enables recovery of critical data from Microsoft applications like Exchange, SharePoint, Active Directory and more in just seconds. Additionally, Backup Exec 11d provides enhanced data security with 128-bit and 256-bit AES encryption capabilities, and extends platform support with Backup Exec media servers running on x64-bit Windows servers.
The REV Product Family
The Iomega REV 70GB Backup Drive, ideal for server implementations, is available in external USB 2.0 and internal ATAPI and SATA models. The Iomega REV 35GB Backup Drive, targeted to desktop backup and archive applications, is available in ATAPI, external USB 2.0, FireWire®, SCSI, and SATA configurations. Rather than a typical 1U rack carousel automation form factor, Iomega REV desktop autoloaders utilize a single drive on an elevator that goes up and down to ingest one of up to eight REV disks inserted into the loader. Iomega’s desktop REV autoloaders include the REV Loader 280, a single REV 35GB drive autoloader which holds up to eight REV 35GB disks for a total of 280GB of native storage capacity; and the REV Loader 560, which uses a single REV 70GB drive and holds up to eight REV disks for up to 560GB of native storage capacity.
The Iomega REV drive is a proven technology that is quickly becoming a small business storage standard around the world. The first REV product was introduced in April 2004 with the debut of the Iomega REV 35GB Backup Drive and the 35GB REV disk. The second generation REV 70GB Backup Drive and 70GB disk were launched in mid-2006. To date, Iomega has sold more than 280,000 REV drives and more than 1.5 million REV disks. The REV drive has also won more than 25 technology awards worldwide.
Iomega REV products are available from a large base of value-added resellers (VARs), systems integrators (SIs) and others that work directly with small businesses on their storage and data protection needs.
