Iomega Launches Managed Security Service for Small and Medium Businesses in the United Kingdom
Iomega’s Award-Winning OfficeScreen Service Expands From the U.S. to Europe
SAN DIEGO, May 24, 2007 – Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), a global leader in data protection and security, today announced the European launch of its OfficeScreen® managed security service products. In expanding its OfficeScreen business beyond the U.S., Iomega’s award-winning network security service for small and mid-sized business networks is now available in United Kingdom.
OfficeScreen is a simple and straightforward managed services offering for broadband service providers and channel partners that sell products and services directly to SMBs. OfficeScreen provides enterprise quality perimeter security and secure remote access for SMB networks, helping to protect small businesses from data theft and liability.
“Like the U.S., the small and mid-sized business segment in the UK is under-served when it comes to the sort of network security features that are commonplace for large enterprises,” said Jonathan Huberman, CEO, Iomega Corporation. “Historically, these security features have been too expensive and complicated to implement in small business settings without dedicated IT staff. Iomega is changing all that with OfficeScreen. We started in the U.S. and now we’re bringing this competitive advantage to small enterprises in the UK.”
Specifically, OfficeScreen is a suite of managed security services that provide small to medium-sized businesses with secure wide-area networks that efficiently, economically and securely link offices and remote workers. Iomega’s OfficeScreen utilizes best-in-class solutions from Juniper® Networks, Inc. and VeriSign®, Inc.
Small and medium-sized businesses utilize OfficeScreen as a secure, reliable outsourced network security and VPN service because it’s inexpensive and doesn’t require upfront hardware expenses, dedicated IT resources or large IT budgets. OfficeScreen’s firewall/VPN, Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and IPSec (IP security) bundles create the secure wide area networks that connect remote offices and workers to applications and data at a company’s headquarters, while countering security threats from hackers, worms and viruses across a company’s entire network. OfficeScreen Firewall and IPSec VPN service, including anti-virus and web-filtering, is now available in the UK. Iomega plans to offer other OfficeScreen products in the UK in the future.
“The launch of OfficeScreen in the UK is an exciting opportunity because managed security from a trusted brand is what SMEs need to protect their growing businesses through secure network connections in the office and from the road,” said Romain Cholat, Vice President of International Sales, Iomega Corporation. “We’re working with broadband service providers, distributors and of course members of IoClub, Iomega’s partner program for authorized resellers, to bring OfficeScreen to their customers in the UK. This is a great value-add service for the channel to sell and a great service value for the end user. In an era where it’s possible to bring the best technologies to the smallest enterprises, OfficeScreen is the right product at the right time.”
Giles Norris, Vendor Relations Manager at Bechtle Direct, a reseller in the UK, said this about OfficeScreen: “Partnering with Iomega to offer managed security is a great opportunity for us to grow our business by providing our customers with a service they need, without either of us having to invest in best-of-class hardware or the round-the-clock resources that a strong managed service offering needs. We work with SMBs every day that don’t have the resources or expertise to secure their data – even though one breach of security could put them out of business. OfficeScreen from Iomega meets that need.”
Matthew Bennett, Networking Business Manager for UK reseller MISCO, said, “Iomega is an ideal partner for managed security services because their products are set up in a simple manner that’s easy for us to sell and easy for our customers to understand. Our small business customers need secure networks just like large companies. With OfficeScreen, we can give them the affordable security they need to conduct dependable, safe day-to-day activities over the Internet.”
According to independent market analysis, the global market for managed security services was approximately $2.9 billion in 2006, and expected to grow to $3.7 billion in 2008.
“Launching OfficeScreen in the UK is the first step in bringing Iomega’s managed security service to Europe,” said Huberman. “By utilizing our strong European sales infrastructure, we plan to launch OfficeScreen in other European countries later this year. Our goal is to establish Iomega as a leader in the managed services market.”
Iomega is expanding its OfficeScreen business in Europe by selling its managed services products through several different channels, including telecommunications providers, hosting companies, VARs and Systems Integrators, direct and indirect sales organizations and retail operations.
Iomega added OfficeScreen to its product portfolio after its August 2006 acquisition of CSCI, the 2006 winner of Juniper Networks, Inc.’s “Managed Services Provider of the Year” award.
